CommentNew Server · posted 2001 by Aphorisms Galore! Webmaster

Today, Aphorisms Galore! moves to a new server. The reason for this is the site's high popularity, which, in combination with the new and fairly advanced personalization features, has caused some stability problems over the past few months. You may notice some temporary address changes (like the server being called www.ag.wastholm.net instead of the usual www.aphorismsgalore.com), but don't update your bookmarks — everything will be back to normal soon.

Edit CommentWhen the government.... · posted 2000 by Stryfe

When the government fears the people, we have liberty. When the people fear the government, we have tyranny. When we have a liberal tyrant, we have Al Gore.

Edit CommentIs this from Doug or Michael O'Donoghue? · posted 2000 by Mark Leffler

I'm not certain, but I believe the quote may be attributed to Michael O'Donoghue, who also wrote for the Lampoon in the early 1970's. It sounds more like MO'D than DCK. Doug's sayings were more along the lines of "There is no free brunch" and "You've got to roll with the bullets". As I say, I'm not sure what the source of the quote is. It may have been from an article, or it could be an oft repeated witticism. Would be interested in what others know or think.

Most people marry because of lonliness. What else can we do if we're not successful to love ourselves enough to bear being with ourselves. Alone but not lonely is way out of reach for many of us

Edit CommentWho is John Winsett? · posted 2000 by Frank A

Does anybody know who John Winsett (to whom the amusing quote above is attributed) actually is?

Does anyone know the background or story behind (pardon the pun) the quote?

Edit CommentWhat do you think of Harry Truman? · posted 2000 by Catalina Espino

Harry Truman... A president very much criticized and hated. What´s your opinion? When I think about this man I always imagine what would our world have turned in if He hadn´t done what he did. Specifically, if he had let thousands of US soldiers go to Japan and try to invade that land. How many more casualties would we have had?? Any comments?

Welcome to the new "Shopping" section. Here, I will do my best to help you find the right aphorism-related products at the right prices. I start out small, with only 65 different books and videos from three of the leading online booksellers, but I plan to offer a wider selection of products from a larger number of merchants in the future.

If you have any comments on the "Shopping" section (or on Aphorisms Galore! in general), respond to this message or drop me a line at webmaster@aphorismsgalore.com.

Edit CommentWow · posted 2000 by John

Wow, I'm the first one to write in here well, maybe I can start some convo. Me, personally, I tend to be more cynical of love, at least the idea of love as some great, grand, all consuming thing. People try to hard to find this "love" thing, and they can't. Or if they do, it's the kind where if you see them and hear them talk about it, you want to punch them in the face. Hate, well, I don't know about everyone else, but I like hating sometimes. They say hate will consume you from the inside out, but honestly, it makes me feel good. Well, time to see if i can post this and stir some people into discussion.....

CommentUser Profile Problem Fixed · posted 2000 by Aphorisms Galore! Webmaster

The "false alarm" problem that caused the user database to report an error in some instances when a user profile was created or updated (even though the profile was in fact correctly stored) has now been fixed. I hope. If you experience any further problems, please let me know, either through the feedback discussion forum or by email to webmaster@aphorismsgalore.com.

CommentProblems Creating a User Profile? · posted 2000 by Aphorisms Galore! Webmaster

If you have tried to create a user profile recently and gotten an error, your profile may nevertheless have been created.

Some users have pointed out that there appears to be a problem with the user signup process. The system reports that "the user profile could not be created due to an unknown error.". Despite this message, it seems that the user profile is usually (depending on the settings) created without problems.

I will of course look into this problem as soon as I get a chance and post an update here when I get it working again.
